Big firms have the resources to hire expensive consultants and lawyers to fix problems when they occur. Litigation is pricey, and many small firms cannot survive such an ordeal. Fortunately, there are many prudent, cost-effective practices that small firms can implement to mitigate risks.

The first step to preventing problems is simply understanding that your employees, contractors, investors, and maybe even mom can be a huge threat to your goals. Its understandable and prudent to be concerned about external threats such as hackers and fraudsters. Like Caesar, firms that ignore threats closer to home may end poorly. (need to fix above)

Et tu, Law was founded by Peter Bogutz, Esq., after a career in government, legal counseling, and law enforcement. For much of that career, Peter specialized in addressing internal threats and fraud. The emotional toll on victims of theft is exponentially worse when the culprit is perceived to be a friend. Sadly, there aren't many resources available to small firms to mitigate this risk. Peter earned his Juris Doctorate from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Geography and a Master's in Business Management.

Footnote: There are many instances of Moms defrauding their children, especially in the entertainment industry. I have not yet found a case involving a mom stealing her child’s trade secrets or intellectual property, but I am not done searching yet.
